Cuando se trata de traer al mundo real a un personaje como Undertaker, hay un elemento que no puede faltar: su imponente guadaña. Esta vez, el cosplayer Shitaro nos confió el desafío de fabricarla, y te contamos cómo logramos que esta pieza de más de 2 metros no solo impresionara por su tamaño, sino también por sus detalles.

🧩 Diseño, referencias y primeras pruebas

Shitaro ya contaba con un modelo 3D, el cual nos compartió como punto de partida. Si bien la estética era perfecta para el personaje, hubo que hacer algunas modificaciones técnicas importantes para garantizar la funcionalidad del prop. Por ejemplo, el diseño original no consideraba la posibilidad de desmontar la hoja, así que tuvimos que intervenir el archivo impreso para permitir el giro y extracción de esa sección.

Cada ajuste fue pensado para que la guadaña pudiera armarse de forma sencilla, pero manteniendo su firmeza y espectacular presencia.

🛠️ Impresión, estructura y sistema desmontable

La guadaña fue impresa completamente en 3D, utilizando un sistema modular para facilitar el transporte. La columna vertebral, costillas y cabeza se imprimieron en partes, y fueron reforzadas con pernería metálica roscada para permitir el montaje y desmontaje sin comprometer la estabilidad.

Este sistema no solo permite armar y desarmar la guadaña, sino que le da la resistencia necesaria para sesiones intensas de fotografía o presentaciones en eventos cosplay.

🎨 Pintura y acabado

El acabado fue trabajado para simular metal ennegrecido y envejecido, con toques brillantes en los bordes para realzar los volúmenes y detalles esqueléticos. El resultado: una pieza visualmente potente, que se ve aún más impresionante bajo luces tenues o en ambientes góticos, como los que se usaron en la sesión de fotos final.

La textura y el contraste en la pintura fueron fundamentales para que la guadaña luciera realista en primer plano.

🎒 Transporte y protección

Dado que Shitaro no vive en Santiago y suele presentarse en distintos eventos cosplay a lo largo del país, era fundamental contar con un sistema de transporte cómodo y seguro. Por eso fabricamos un bolso acolchado a medida, con cierre reforzado y cintas que permiten llevarlo tanto al hombro como tipo mochila.

Aunque no tenía compartimentos internos, el relleno interno y la organización por secciones en burbujas protegían perfectamente cada parte del prop durante los traslados.

⚠️ Tips si quieres hacer algo parecido

• Si compras un diseño 3D, revísalo bien antes de imprimir: puede necesitar adaptaciones para que sea funcional como prop.

• El sistema de pernería metálica es ideal para piezas grandes que necesiten firmeza y fácil armado.

• Piensa en el transporte desde el principio: un bolso bien hecho puede marcar la diferencia entre un prop cuidado y uno dañado.

🪓 The Shinigami’s Scythe

How we built Undertaker’s giant prop for @shitarocosplay

When it comes to bringing a character like Undertaker to life, there’s one element you simply can’t leave out: his imposing scythe. This time, the talented cosplayer Shitaro trusted us with the challenge of fabricating it — and here’s how we managed to make this over-two-meter prop not only impressive in size, but also functional and portable.

🧩 Design, references, and first adjustments

Shitaro already had a 3D model, which he shared with us as the starting point. While the aesthetics were spot-on, the original design wasn’t optimized for handling or transport — for example, it didn’t allow for the blade section to detach or rotate.

So we had to modify the printed parts, adapting the model manually so that the blade could be removed and reassembled easily while still remaining secure. Every adjustment was made with portability and performance in mind.

🛠️ Printing, structure, and detachable system

The scythe was entirely 3D printed and assembled in modular sections. The spine, ribs, and skull were printed separately and joined using metal threaded rods, creating a strong yet dismountable structure.

This system allows the scythe to be assembled in just minutes, while keeping it firm enough for dynamic photo sessions and events.

🎨 Painting and finish

To achieve an aged metal look, we used layered painting techniques — combining deep shadows with metallic highlights to enhance the skeletal details and give the piece a powerful, haunting look.

Under low lighting or gothic settings (like the ones used in Shitaro’s final shoot), the texture and contrast really bring the prop to life.

🎒 Transport and protection

Since Shitaro lives outside of Santiago, and travels to cosplay events across Chile, a practical transport solution was essential. That’s why we designed a custom padded bag, with reinforced zippers and adjustable straps so it could be carried either as a shoulder bag or backpack-style.

While the interior didn’t feature custom compartments, the padded lining and careful packaging kept each part safe during travel.

• If you buy a 3D model, review it carefully first. You may need to modify it for real-life use.

• Metal rods and threaded inserts are great for large props that need to be sturdy but detachable.

• Plan your transport solution early. A good carrying bag makes all the difference when traveling with oversized props.
